Helios Community Foundation is committed to serving the community. Through our research initiatives, support activities and community outreach, we seek to improve the health and happiness of Calgarians. Helios was founded by a group of professionals and donors who understand the important role of non-governmental community-based organizations in building a better society . While Helios primarily focuses on health care, wellness and access to justice, our activities are broadly focused on bettering the community.
SERVICES
ADVOCACY
Our goal is to promote great opportunities for those in need. With assistance to obtain services, people can become empowered by their own abilities and gain the confidence to fulfill their potential. Our organization assists individuals in need to understand eligibility and apply for services.
RESEARCH
With our organization’s mission always in mind, we strive to discover and understand data that will help support the community. Our programs are data driven. Through research, focus groups, and data analysis, we inform both our programs and the programs of other institutions interested in helping the community.
LEGAL SERVICES
There are systemic barriers for low-income individuals to access the legal system. Qualifying low-income individuals have an opportunity to speak to a lawyer to receive pro-bono legal advice on a wide range of matters, including referrals to free resources and information on legal aid.
MEDICAL SUPPORT
Medical costs and compliance can be difficult for individuals who have complex and overlapping medical conditions. Our organization assists eligible low-income individuals with compliance, accessibility, advice, and assistance for their medical needs.
REFERRALS
We facilitate referrals for a variety of services that are available to vulnerable populations throughout the city. Often, access to information is difficult and we seek to be a referral resource for our clients and community partners.
SENIOR SUPPORT
Seniors require a high-level of attention and care to attend to their medical and life needs. We are working on research that will lead to programming that will support senior citizens in an effort to manage their physical and mental health.
